Project Description

Southern Sussex Regional Water Treatment System

Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc. provided full service architectural, engineering, and surveying services to Artesian Water Company, Inc. to design and build their new 2 million gallon per day water treatment plant to serve the communities in their southern Sussex regional system. The process began with designing and receiving approvals for the site plan. The site plan was permitted with the DelDOT entrance division, DNREC, the Fire Marshall, Sussex Conservation District, and an assurance of wetlands not being present on the site. The design of the stormwater treatment process utilized bio-swales and sheet flow to conservation areas which allow for minimum maintenances of stormwater facilities for the owner.

Once the site plan was permitted, designed and approved, the design of the water treatment plant began. The treatment plant was designed with a similar layout to other  water treatment plant’s in the system. The treatment plant was designed with close collaboration with Artesian’s operators to ensure the facility would meet the needs of the staff.

DBF also provided construction phase engineering, architecture, and surveying services as part of a design-build contract with Wickersham Construction & Engineering, Inc. The construction team worked to get the project constructed in a timely manner to meet Artesian’s schedule to meet summer demand.
