Project Description
Salisbury University Athletic Complex (East Campus)
Salisbury University (SU), built a new $19 million, 30,000 SF stadium along with a brand-new state-of-the art artificial turf playing field. The design also provided a plaza adjacent to the stadium for students to gather before and after the games for festivities. A new parking lot for the officials and SU staff was designed near the stadium for easy access on game day.
The new stadium bleachers more than doubled the existing seating capacity and will now accommodate nearly 5,000 fans. The stadium has two towers acting as anchors on each end of the building reaching almost 80’ tall.
Stormwater was designed to be under the proposed bleachers to increase the most usable space on this site. With the collaboration of designs between architecture, engineering and planning, this facility is now one of the most prestigious Division III facilities in the country.
Renovations and upgrades were made to all sports fields, including football/lacrosse, soccer, tennis, softball, baseball, and intramural. New stadiums and bleachers were constructed to include plaza and open space for gathering at each facility. In order for sports teams to not be impacted by construction, the project was on a tight schedule for design, permitting, start of construction and completion. Site designs met strict guidelines in order to be permitted to host NCAA competitive events. Stormwater for each facility was designed to have the least amount of impact to the site. Storage was used under the artificial turf fields and green technology was used for the natural fields.
Included as a part of this project was the new construction of a 2,600 SF grounds maintenance facility building and associated parking. This building’s location was selected in order to be able to serve the entire sports complex with the easiest accessibility to each field.
