Milton Elementary School, a new school built to accommodate up to 650 students was designed to leave room for future growth and address the Cape Henlopen School District’s student capacity challenges. Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc. (DBF), provided civil engineering and surveying services for the 25-acre site, and 97,000-square-foot building.

The design included parking lot layout, building placements, utility locations, grading, stormwater management, landscaping and active amenities to be used by the students. The site design was completed in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations A traffic impact study and traffic signal justification study were completed and then used by the civil design team to complete the site design of the project.

The stormwater system was designed to meet the most recently adopted stormwater management regulations and includes the use of green technology practices.
