Project Description
Woodbrooke Building H
Peninsula Regional Medical System required a 17,000 SF facility in the Woodbrooke Medical Center located east of Salisbury, Maryland along Route 50. The building integrates several specialties: Diabetes and Endocrinology, PCA Primary Care, Family Medicine and Family Lab.
Due to its location, somewhat distant from the main roadway through the medical center complex, Davis, Bowen & Friedel considered it necessary to create an elevated front façade easily seen from a distance. This added height presented an opportunity to design a grander, more welcoming, reception and waiting room.
The building was designed to be symmetrical with the reception area, facing east and giving access to two sets of perpendicular corridors, serving all specialties easily. In elevation, the building has a central double-height volume with pyramidal roof over the entrance/reception and single-story wings, also with pyramidal roofs, on each side. A flat roof covers the rear area of the building to accommodate mechanical equipment and other utilities.
Color and materials reflect those utilized for buildings within the Woodbrooke Medical Center: light earth tones with brick and EIFS, and aluminum windows and doors. The roofs are primarily asphalt shingles, with metal featured over the entrance canopy.
Architectural and structural engineering services were provided and were done so as part of a design/build delivery process.
