Project Description
Fort Smallwood Park
The Department of Recreation and Parks for Anne Arundel County, Maryland, planned for $4.5 million in renovations and upgrades to the Fort Smallwood Park. The 90-acre park amenities include: historic gun battery and barracks; a fishing pier, boat launch, pavilion, accessible playground, hiking trails, volleyball courts and a pond.
Working closely with Anne Arundel County Departments of Public Works and Recreation and Parks, Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc. (DBF), completed a feasibility study, which ultimately resulted in preparation of bid documents and regulatory/environmental approvals for the first county-owned boat ramp facility.
Located in a historic park, the layout for the boat ramp, access roads and parking lots were designed to minimize impact to historic artifacts discovered during the phase I & II archaeological surveys. The scope of engineering services included topographic and bathymetric surveys, preparation of bid documents, archaeology investigations, processing regulatory and environmental approvals, assistance during bidding, and construction management.
