Project Description

Mispillion Riverwalk Park & Streetscape

Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc. (DBF), provided comprehensive design and administrative services on behalf of the City of Milford, Delaware, for the extensive on-going greenway Mispillion Riverwalk and new pedestrian bridge project.

The Riverwalk was a multi-phased project that included roads and parking facilities, a Riverwalk, pedestrian bridge, bulkhead, spillway, park facilities, landscaping and lighting. The Riverwalk, located on both the north and south sides of the river runs, connects to the Milford Public Library’s Amphitheatre. From there, it continues along the river passing a basketball court to a small park. From the park, a pedestrian bridge takes you to Bicentennial Park and the parking lot. In addition to completing the design of the Riverwalk, our office completed the design of Bicentennial Park and the associated parking lot.

The bridge is part of a federal aid project administered through Delaware Department of Transportation. The superstructure is an 8’W x 150’L steel, truss-type pedestrian bridge. The bridge is supported on reinforced concrete abutments, concrete pile caps and timber piles. DBF was responsible for the acquisition of all regulatory permits including the Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, the Delaware Department of Transportation and the Sussex County Soil Conservation District.
